茶道では、お道具をとても大切にします。

茶碗、茶杓、棗、掛物、花入。

どれも長い年月を経て受け継がれてきたものです。

お道具は、古さや価格だけで大切にされているのではありません。

お茶会、お茶事はもちろんのこと、お稽古でも、その日のお客様を思いながら道具を選びます。

季節に合わせて。

天候に合わせて。

お客様に合わせて。

一つひとつの道具には、亭主の思いが込められています。

客は道具を拝見します。

しかし、見ているのは道具だけではありません。

その取り合わせの中にある亭主の心配りや、お客様を迎える思いに触れています。

道具は、単なる「物」ではありません。

亭主の心持ちを伝える、大切な存在です。

同じことは、お茶事全体にもいえます。

水を撒くこと。

露地を掃くこと。

花を生けること。

炭を組むこと。

懐石を用意すること。

掛物を選ぶこと。

そのどれもが、お客様を迎えるための準備です。

そして、その準備の一つひとつに、亭主の在り方があらわれています。

そのあらわれにお客様は触れるのです。

In the Way of Tea, great care is given to the tea utensils.

The tea bowl, tea scoop, tea caddy, hanging scroll, and flower vase have all been passed down through generations.

They are not valued simply because they are old or expensive.

Whether for a tea gathering, a formal chaji, or even an ordinary practice session, the host carefully selects each utensil with that day's guest in mind.

According to the season.

According to the weather.

According to the person who will be received.

Every utensil carries the host's thoughtfulness.

As guests, we take time to appreciate the utensils.

Yet we are not looking only at the objects themselves.

Through their selection and arrangement, we encounter the host's consideration, sensitivity, and sincere wish to welcome us.

Tea utensils are more than beautiful objects.

They are a quiet expression of the host's heart.

The same is true of the entire tea gathering.

Sprinkling water.

Sweeping the roji (garden path).

Arranging the flowers.

Preparing the charcoal.

Preparing the kaiseki meal.

Choosing the hanging scroll.

Each of these are part of welcoming the guest.

And within every preparation, the host's way of being is naturally revealed.

What the guest receives is not only a bowl of tea.

Through every detail of the gathering, they quietly encounter the host's presence.
